Design for Manufacturability

Sharp edges and corners on a die casting can directly affect
die life and tooling costs.

The features of the casting are replicated in the cavity of the casting tool.  If the component has  sharp corners and sharp edges, those features will be duplicated in the tool.

But sharp corners and edges in the tool act as stress concentrations and local zones of high heat build-up. Both conditions can cause premature surface and corner cracking in the tool and shorten tool life.

Sharp features in the component should be reduced with fillets and radii whenever possible.
