Radiohead and Die Casting
Radiohead's House of Cards music video is a revolution in the use of scanning technology in the place of traditional cameras. Did you know that the same and similar technology can be used to create a die for die cast parts? If you have current or legacy part designs that lack 3D models or even 2D prints this technology is useful. Would you like to convert parts to die castings, but the lack of CAD data is holding you back. Then NADCA’s new reverse engineering tool is for you. This online tool allows you to determine the best reverse engineering technology to use to scan your part to create a usable 3D model for producing a die casting die. By answering a series of questions about your part the tool informs you of the best scanning technologies for your specific part. The scanning and other reverse engineering technologies such as Laser Light, White Light, CAT Scanning and Cross Sectioning are explained, to help you select the best process for your part. This new tool is located at: http://www.diecastingdesign.org/retool/.

Are Fillets, Draft and Parting Lines Causing You Pain?
Do you find that adding fillets, draft parting lines and other casting features to your model often causes time consuming problems? I had the same problem until I found out about a recommended feature order that works very well with complex casting models in most solid modeling systems. Another benefit of this feature order is that it makes it easier to create as-cast and machined models for delivery for quotation or for 2D drawing generation. To learn more about redcing the pain of adding casting features to your model visit: http://www.diecastingdesign.org/design/basic/cad/

Remove Gates and Overflows
NADCA’s new publication Finishing Operations for Die Castings reviews the various processes available to die casters in order to remove the gates and overflows, deflash, deburr, and clean the surface of the die castings.

In addition, this new publication also describes the process and equipment used for trimming, shot blasting, vibratory finishing, tumbling and shot peening.

NADCA’s Finishing Operations for Die Castings is now available for the low price of:

$20 for Corporate Members
$30 for Individual Members
$40 for Non Members

No other publication goes into such detail regarding die casting finishing operations, making it a valuable resource for any die caster! To purchase this publication (# 535) please click here.
